Tuesday Nights at the Estuary Club

The club meets every Tuesday night. Since 2022 we have been using the function room of the Estuary Club, London Road, Leigh-on-Sea. It’s a fantastic venue for the folk club with great facilities and a fully-stocked bar.

Doors open at 7:15pm, music starts at 7:45pm, and the evenings normally finish at 10pm,

Guest Nights

For over 50 years the club has been bringing the best in folk music to the Southend Area.

Since 1970 the club has been renowned for being able to host a truly amazing roster of top-flight professional performers, many of the greats of the folk world. Following the Covid epidemic, and in our new venue, we have bounced back stronger than ever and are able to present great acts of national and international repute.

Most evenings we start with a few floor spots from local performers and then, after a short interval, the main act of the evening will follow and do two 40 minute slots. So there are plenty of breaks during the evening to allow people to chat, get to the bar, and, most importantly of all for a folk club, to buy raffle tickets.

Except for Open Nights, Hoy at Anchor guest bookings are dealt with by Steve Ramm - contact bookings@hoyatanchor.org

Floor Spots at the Hoy

Folk music has always celebrated participation. It is a tradition of folk clubs to welcome Floor Spots -members of the audience who perform as part of the evening’s entertainment.

The Hoy continues this tradition and, before the evening’s main guest, we enjoy a number of floor spots.

If you would like take part - a song or a tune - and your style music is folk (or folk-adjacent) then please arrive early and make yourself known to the evening’s MC. There’s normally the chance for each to do one or two numbers, depending on what time allows

We can’t guarantee that you’ll get a spot, but it’s rare that anyone is turned away.

Please note that we are generally an acoustic club, not using a PA system, so floor spots needed to perform without amplification and all instruments need to be acoustic.

Floor spot performers are members of the audience, as such, are expected to pay for admission on the evening.

Open Nights

Usually, once a month or so, we have an ‘Open Night’. Like an ‘Open Mic’ without the ‘Mic’, this is a full evening of floor spots and a chance to showcase local folk talent.

It’s always a great, fun evening full of variety.

If you’d like to perform please turn up early and speak to that evening’s MC. Performers normally get a chance to do one or two numbers in front of an attentive and appreciative audience.

Open Night admission is only £2, and free for performers.
