Tunes at Anke's

Tunes sessions

On the first Saturday of every month the Hoy hosts a tunes session, upstairs at Anke’s Tea and Coffee Lounge, London Road, Westcliff. It’s an opportunity for traditional musicians to get together and share tunes. It’s an informal gathering, rather than a performance, although your are welcome if you want to drop in and listen.

It’s a loose collection of regulars, irregulars and first-timers, and what happens depends on what combination of people turn up. A chance to play favourite tunes together, to learn some new ones, and to have a chat.

Tune book

There is no set list of the tunes we play, but a tune book of some that often crop up can be downloaded here.

Join in

On the 1st Saturday of the month, 6pm - 9pm at Anke’s Tea & Coffee Lounge, 481 London Rd, Westcliff-on-Sea, SS0 9LG.

Every first Wednesday of the month, the Hoy hosts a singaround at The Mayflower in Old Leigh.

Bring a song to share, or just bring your voice. You can just come and listen if you like, but however you want to participate, come down and enjoy an evening of communal singing in a traditional quayside pub in Leigh-on-Sea.

What is a singaround?

Singarounds are a type of session where we gather as a group to sing together unaccompanied. They are friendly and informal as we sing for each other and not for an audience. We go around the group and everyone gets a chance to lead a song if they want to. Songs with choruses or familiar songs are great because they allow everyone to join in but its always good to hear something new.

If you enjoy singing with people please consider coming along and sharing a song. You may recognise a few songs or you will pick them up very quickly.

On the 1st Wednesday of the month, 7:30 - 10:30 at the Mayflower PH, High St. Leigh-on-Sea.
